Culture & History

The Milwaukee Jewish Federation is proud to steward two cornerstone programs that bring Jewish history to life—honoring where we’ve been while illuminating the path forward.

Overview

Jewish history is more than a record of the past. It is a living story that shapes who we are, strengthens our identity, and guides the values we pass to future generations. Through culture, memory, and education, we ensure that the Jewish story continues to inspire understanding, resilience, and connection across our community and beyond.

Holocaust Education Resource Center

The Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC) ensures that the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten or ignored. Through survivor testimony, educator training, student programs, and community education, HERC confronts antisemitism, hatred, and indifference with truth, context, and compassion.

HERC empowers learners of all ages to understand the consequences of intolerance and the responsibility each of us holds to stand up for humanity. By preserving memory and transforming it into action, HERC helps build a more informed, empathetic, and just society.
